Voter Registration

You can register to vote or update your voter registration information when you apply for, renew, or request a duplicate driver's license and have filled out the appropriate "Voter Registration" section of the form.

Please Note: Transactions conducted on our website will not affect you voter registration. If you simply change your address and do not request a duplicate license or submit a renewal in an RMV branch office, you voter registration will not be changed.

To register to vote in Massachusetts you must be:

  • a U.S. Citizen; and
  • a Massachusetts resident; and
  • at least 18 years old on or before the next election.

In order to vote in a future election you must be registered:

  • 20 days before all primaries and elections; and/or
  • 10 days before a special town meeting.

Normally you should receive confirmation of your voter status within 2 to 3 weeks from the date you registered with the RMV. If you have not received confirmation please contact your local election office.

For more information on voting please visit the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts'  Elections Division.
