Plans call for an additional six AAA offices to offer RMV services
BOSTON – Wednesday, March 12, 2014 – MassDOT Registrar of Motor Vehicles Celia J. Blue and AAA Southern New England President and CEO Mark Shaw today announced plans to double the number of AAA branches offering Registry renewal services to a dozen locations by late spring and to increase the number of transactions that may be performed at AAA offices.
“MassDOT and the RMV have found a trusted partner in AAA,” said Registrar Blue. “We are thrilled to move forward with the expansion of services within the AAA network that will better serve our mutual customers and help reduce wait times.”
“Our relationship with the RMV has proven to be an extraordinarily productive public-private partnership. We welcome this opportunity to enhance convenience for the motoring public, and look forward to working with the Registrar to further expand our Registry Services to drivers in Massachusetts,” said Shaw.
Presently, there are six AAA branches offering RMV services and these are the only places to renew a license or registration in person on a Saturday. AAA members may complete select transactions, such as license and registration renewals at its branches in Boston, Framingham, Saugus, South Dennis, West Springfield and Worcester. The new AAA locations to offer Registry services will be announced in the weeks ahead.
The partnership expansion will also allow AAA to process registration transfers, registration amendments, commercial registration renewals (under 55,000 pounds) and duplicate titles (not requiring a lien release).
AAA has also partnered with MassDOT to provide E-ZPass transponders to customers at its branch locations across Massachusetts.
MassDOT continues to explore opportunities to enhance customer service at the same time reducing its costs.
