Project Overview

MassDOT and Veolia are exploring the opportunity to develop their parcels along Kneeland Street. Development on this site was previously limited by the Veolia steam plant. Now, by offering their properties together, MassDOT and Veolia have the potential to transform these sites into a dynamic addition to the Chinatown and Leather District neighborhoods, and to serve as a gateway into Boston.

Developing this site will create:

  • new residential units
  • employment opportunities
  • and expanded public spaces

Developers will be invited to bid on the land for the chance to acquire and build out this important site. Once selected, the developer will engage in a comprehensive community process, and undergo all City of Boston and State permitting. The sale of this property will be contingent upon receiving these major approvals. The outcome will be a transit-oriented, mixed-use area.
