Q. What Is the Qualified Construction Materials List?
A. This is a list of products that are covered by the MassDOT Highway Division specifications, have been found to meet the appropriate specification, and are therefore acceptable for use, provided that the manufacturer's technical data sheets comply with the performance and physical properties specified in the Special Provisions of the Contract.

Q. What Products Are Listed on the Qualified Construction Materials List?
A. Standard Manufactured Materials that have undergone independent testing and/or MassDOT Highway Division testing, and have met the minimum performance requirements of the MassDOT Highway Division are included in this list. This list also includes approved producers for asphalt, precast concrete and prestressed concrete that have had their mix designs approved by the MassDOT Highway Division.

Q.What Products Are Not Listed on the Qualified Construction Materials List?
A.The following products are not on the Qualified Construction Materials List:

  • Products that are not covered by the MassDOT Highway Division specifications and therefore require evaluation on the basis of need, performance, and cost-competitiveness. Evaluations are done by the Quality Assurance Unit.
  • Products, whether or not covered by the MassDOT Highway Division specifications, that have not been submitted for approval (see Product Submission Instructions).
  • Products that are required to meet industry standards (i.e. UL approved; AWWA approved; etc.).
  • Products that are required to have field sampling and testing performed in accordance with MassDOT Highway Division's Guide Schedule for Sampling and Testing Materials.
  • Products that have been submitted for approval and have been found not to conform to the MassDOT Highway Division specification requirements.

Q.How Do I get My Product Onto the Qualified Construction Materials List?
A. Follow the Product Submission Instructions

Exceptions:

  • Structural Steel Paint for New or Bare Existing Steel Bridges and Structural Steel Maintenance Overcoat Paint for Previously Painted Existing Steel Bridges should be submitted to the North East Protective Coating Committee and the National Transportation Product Evaluation Program for testing and evaluation.
  • Concrete Admixtures, Concrete Repair Materials (Vertical and Overhead Application), Corrugated High Density Polyethylene Pipe, Durable Pavement Marking Tape, Epoxy Pavement Markings, Geotextile Fabricss, Rapid Set Concrete Patch Materials (Horizontal Fast Set), Rapid Set Polymer Concrete, Reflectorized Drum, Reflectorized Flexible Delineator Post, Reflectorized Pavement Markers (Slotted in Pavement), Temporary Pavement Marking Tape, and Traffic Cones should be submitted to the National Transportation Product Evaluation Program for testing and evaluation.

Q.How Do I Find a Product on the Qualified Construction Materials List?
A. The products are categorized alphabetically. Select the appropriate category on the Qualified Construction Materials List, click on that category, and scroll down to view the approved products in that category.

Q.What Are the Codes in Parentheses Following Some Listings?
A. Codes beginning with M refer to the section of the MassDOT Highway Division Division III Standard Specifications covering that product or material. Lack of a code indicates that the product or material is not included in the MassDOT Highway Division Division III Standard Specifications.
