Safe Route To School

Encouragement

Our program organizes customizable school, community, statewide, and international events and programs to encourage students, parents, teachers, and the local community to increase their physical activity and choose active, healthy, and safe modes of transportation.

Our events and programs include:

  • International Walk to School Day (iWalk) – is an international event held on the first Wednesday of October where students from around the world walk (and even bike) to school to show the global impact of these initiatives.
  • Massachusetts Walk and Bike to School Day – takes place on the first Wednesday of May. This event promotes a statewide walk and bike to school initiative.
  • Bicycle Trains – (or bike buses) are a fun way for students to be physically active and practice bicycle safety skills. Bicycle Trains are adult supervised bicycle rides on a predetermined route to and from school.
  • Walking School Bus – is a fun, social, physically active, and environmentally-friendly form of transportation. Walking School Buses designate drop off and pick up points for all students to be able to walk to school and pick up others along the way. This program can be modified for students with mobility impairments.
  • Monthly-themed walk or bike to school events – the sky is the limit on these! We’ll help you to create year-round themed events at your school to promote walking and bicycling initiatives.
  • And more – we customize each of our events and individual programs to meet the needs of our school communities. There are many more options available to offer each of our school partners. Contact us for more ideas and to get started with your own program.
