Safe Route To School

Our Safe Routes to School Program educates children and adults on the importance of walking and biking to school safely. Through a combination of pedestrian and bicycle safety education sessions, school safety assemblies and workshops, students are given the tools they need to be smart and safe pedestrians and bicyclists.

Our program:

Teaches children and parents about the broad range of transportation choices
  • Demonstrates important lifelong bicycling and walking safety skills
  • Creates awareness among drivers in the vicinity of the schools
  • Improves the health benefits of our children through regular exercise
  • Advances the physical health, environmental health and safety of our children and our communities

Bicycle and pedestrian safety education sessions teach students skills through classroom and hands on learning experiences. Through school and community presentations, classroom visits, and student and adult education, our program has created three customizable models based on your school community needs.

Second Grade Pedestrian Safety Curriculum

Designed in conjunction with WalkBoston, the in-class curriculum teaches crossing streets and intersections safely, parking lot safety, and concludes with an optional neighborhood walk to practice these lessons. In addition, the safety curriculum meets Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum Frameworks.
