Gold Star Family plates are issued to parents, children, or spouses of members of the military
who were killed in action during wartime service.
Each person qualified under the Gold Star Family law is eligible for a plate.
Procedure to Obtain Gold Star Family Plates:
An Application for Gold Star Family Plates must be completed. Along with this
completed application, you must submit a photocopy of one of the following documents
to the Special Plates Department of the RMV:
Mail the completed Application for Gold Star Family Plates and verification listed
- A casualty report,
- A telegram for military members who served in WWII and/or the Korean war, or
- An overseas death certificate issued by the military indicating the name and date of death

Once eligibility is verified, customers will receive their veteran license plates and registration via U.S. Mail.
Gold Star Family plates are also issued at any full service RMV office by presenting the above listed documents.
There is no fee for the issuance or the renewal of the Gold Star Family plates.
These plates must be renewed every two (2) years.
