Patrick Administration Opens New RMV Branch in Wilmington

(Wilmington, MA)-Registrar of Motor Vehicles Anne L. Collins joined state legislators and Wilmington town leaders to officially open the newest RMV branch in Wilmington, cutting the ribbon on a larger, state-of-the-art, centrally located office for customers north of Boston. The 10,000 square foot office space replaces the RMV branch in Reading which closed last Friday.

“RMV crews worked around the clock over the weekend to dismantle our operations in Reading so that we could open our doors in Wilmington today and offer our customers full service,” said Registrar Collins. “Our new location is easy to get to and boasts new technology so we can process license and registration transactions quicker.”

The Reading RMV was one of the busiest branches in the agency, servicing more than 17 thousand customers in November. The new branch location in Wilmington was chosen because of its easy accessibility. The building, located at 355 Middlesex Avenue, is within walking distance from the North Wilmington Commuter rail station and is three-quarters of a mile off Route 93..

"A new registry office in Wilmington is good news for our region," said Senate Assistant Minority Leader Bruce E. Tarr (R-Gloucester).  He added that "with its proximity to major highways and the commuter rail station, the new office will provide tremendous access to the public."

Representative James R. Miceli (D-Wilmington) said, "Having access to a registry office at this location will afford my constituents in Tewksbury and Wilmington the ultimate in convenience."

All 26 full and part-time employees in Reading have moved to the new branch which features improved accessibility for disabled customers and employees as well as dual work stations which give clerks greater flexibility in meeting shifting demands for licenses or registrations.

The Wilmington branch will be open 8:30a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Customers can view current wait times for Wilmington and all 34 branches at
