September 25, 2006
All School bus drivers who hold a Commercial Driver's License are required to have a school bus (S) endorsement on their license after September 30, 2006 to be eligible to transport school children in Massachusetts. This is required by the federal Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act (MCSIA).
Beginning October 1, 2006, any school bus driver who does not have an "S" endorsement on their Commercial Driver's License will be required to take both a written exam at an RMV branch office and a road skills test with the Department of Telecommunications and Energy (DTE) to be issued the "S" endorsement.
Please refer to the "What Do I Need To Drive a School Bus" brochure for instructions on how to obtain a School Bus Certificate issued by DTE.
