It's that time of year again when Massachusetts' drivers can try their luck at obtaining one of the coveted low number license plates. There are 239 plates available this year. Some of the more desirable plates that are up for grabs are Y7, 8L and 221. “The popularity of these plates continues to be overwhelming, we received 4,490 applications last year,” said Registrar of Motor Vehicles Anne L. Collins. “If you don’t win the first time, don’t worry, we will again be giving 25 lucky people a second bite at the apple by holding a runner up drawing.”
Applications are available in RMV branches and online at www.massrmv.com. All entries must be post marked by August 11, 2006. Postcard entries will not be accepted. Winners who do not register their car with their new lottery plate by December 31, 2006 automatically forfeit their plate.
Due to an RMV error, passenger reserved plate number 8250 is not available for the 2006 Plate Lottery.
Boston Herald Columnist and WRKO radio personality Howie Carr will be emceeing the drawing, which will be held September 5th. Applicants should check the Registry website, www.massrmv.com later this summer for official drawing details.
