“Today, the
driver’s of Massachusetts can show their hope of eradicating this
awful disease by purchasing one of the Conquer Cancer License
plates,” said Registrar of Motor Vehicles Anne L. Collins.
In January
of 2004 Susan Zuker’s husband Michael died of lung cancer at age 53.
Susan and her sons Matthew and Jonathan wanted to honor his life
while helping others cope with a cancer diagnosis. In an effort to
help find a cure for this dreaded disease, and inspired by a
“Conquer Cancer” license plate from another state, the Zukers
founded the Conquer Cancer Coalition of Massachusetts to
bring the specialty plate to Massachusetts.
The plate’s design
includes an eternal flame, signifying hope, a teardrop, and a
sunrise/sunset as the backdrop along with a star to guide the way.
Revenue raised
through the sale of these new license plates will be used to support
the Conquer Cancer Coalition of Massachusetts which is comprised of
the following organizations:
The
Wellness Community of Greater Boston
The Kenneth B.
Schwartz Center
Cancer Prevention
Research at Brigham & Women’s Hospital/Channing Laboratory
The New
England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship
In addition, the Coalition will share a portion of its proceeds
through an annual grant to be awarded to eligible
Massachusetts-based cancer organizations.
“Through the last two years the support of the Registry of Motor
Vehicles has been instrumental in making this possible. Thousands of
people across this state have joined this effort. What I have
learned in this journey is that none of us are alone in the fight
against cancer. I believe that together we all can make a
difference,” said Susan Zuker of the Conquer Cancer Coalition.
Massachusetts Residents interested in obtaining the Conquer Cancer
license plate can go to one of the 35 RMV branches across the state.
