The Romney Administration and The Salvation Army have teamed up to help families across Massachusetts with a toy drive, a mission made more important because a growing number of families are in need this holiday season.
This year the Registry of Motor Vehicles and The Salvation Army are working together on their fourth annual toy drive. Last year 4,122 toys were donated at RMV branches statewide. In the history of this program more than 10,000 toys have been collected for needy children in Massachusetts.
"The partnership between the RMV and the Salvation Army gives Massachusetts residents a wonderful opportunity to spread holiday cheer and make a child happy with the gift of a toy," said Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey.
The Toy Drive will run from November 24th to December 8th. RMV customers can drop off toys at any of the RMV's 35 branches statewide. Donated toys should be new, non-violent and unwrapped. To check for a branch location in your area log onto www.massrmv.com.
"In this Season of giving, it's important to help those who may need assistance in providing something for their children. One small donation from you can help brighten an entire family's day," Secretary of Public Safety Edward Flynn said.
This year's tough economic times mean more families are in need this holiday season. The Salvation Army is reporting an increase in demand for assistance already this year.
"The Registry of Motor Vehicles and the Romney Administration are to be commended for this enormous effort," said Lt. Colonel Fred Van Brunt, Divisional Commander for the Massachusetts Salvation Army. "The toys collected through the RMV will help make Christmas brighter for thousands of children across the state."
"The Registry of Motor Vehicles is thrilled to be part of the toy drive again this year," Registrar Hinden said. "This is a chance for the Registry and its very generous customers to make a difference in the lives of thousands of people in their communities."
The toys are distributed by The Salvation Army at various locations throughout the state. The Christmas Castle for the Boston area will be held the week of December 15th-19th at the Park Plaza Castle in Boston, where more than 6,000 families are expected to seek assistance from The Salvation Army.
