As many of you know, the Registry of Motor Vehicles disseminated a survey consisting of 13 questions relative to the operation of motorized scooters to officials from law enforcement, local municipalities, educators and insurance agents. The survey was also posted on our website to allow responses from the general public. As of March 2, 2001 this agency has received 2282 responses of which 78% were over 18 years of age and 21% were under 18. It appears that the respondents favor state regulation of these scooters.
A couple of highlights of the survey are that 67% of respondents believe operators should be 16 ½ years old and posses a valid learner's permit or driver's license, 53% believe they should be banned from highways or streets and 87% believe the operator should wear a helmet.
Here are the results of the survey.
