The Registry of Motor Vehicles is now able to keep more detailed statistics on crashes in the state, thanks to updated crash reports. The new forms-developed by the Registry, MassHighway, State Police, and the Governor's Highway Safety Bureau-allow the Registry to record more in-depth information about a crash, particularly regarding its location. The new forms also solicit better information on injuries, seatbelt use, and other factors and effects of the crash. The New Massachusetts Crash Data System went into effect Nov. 1, 2001.
