About This Project


The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the MBTA studied public transportation needs and potential improvements in Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan and portions of the South End. The Roxbury / Dorchester / Mattapan (RDM) Transit Needs Study identified strategies - from improving bus service to building new transit lines - that can guide future investment in the corridor, all with extensive community input. The success of the study depended heavily on the public's involvement, commitment, and willingness to let their voices be heard.

Where the Action Is

The RDM Study Area consists primarily of those sections of Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan (as well as a portion of the South End) that are not within walking distance (one half-mile) of rapid transit stations on the MBTA's Red or Orange Lines. For a detailed map of the Study Area, please click:
