Public Transit

Public transit provides a healthy, lower-polluting alternative to private cars, and a means of providing Massachusetts residents, employees, and visitors with more travel choices.

The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) and the 15 regional transit authorities provide residents and visitors of the Commonwealth with public transit options. MassDOT estimates that nearly 65 percent of Commonwealth residents have access to rapid transit or bus service.

For more information, please visit the webpages for MassDOT’s Rail & Transit Division, the MBTA, and the regional transit authorities listed below.
