Public transportation enables compact development and access to jobs, school, health care, recreation, and other destinations without a car. The GreenDOT Policy supports public transit as a healthy and lower-polluting alternative to private cars, and a means of providing Massachusetts residents, employees, and visitors with more travel choices.
The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) and the 15 regional transit authorities provide residents and visitors of the Commonwealth with public transit options. MassDOT estimates that nearly 65 percent of Commonwealth residents have access to rapid transit or bus service.
