Changes To Tobin Toll Plaza Cash, E-Zpass Lane Configuration

Drivers urged to sign-up for E-ZPass as switch to All-Electronic Tolling approaches

BOSTON (Friday, April 25, 2014) – Today, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced motorists will see changes to the cash and E-ZPass booth assignments at the Tobin Bridge toll plaza. MassDOT urged drivers to approach with care as they enter the new configuration; E-ZPass customers are directed to use the middle lanes.

The left two booths will be blocked permanently to support the ongoing steel preservation and painting project. This will also allow contractors to begin planning for the removal of the entire toll plaza later this year.

Beginning this summer, cash will no longer be accepted and all tolls will be collected electronically. Residents are urged to sign up for an E-ZPass transponder online at Mass.gov/EZPassMA, by calling 1-877-627-7745, or by visiting the customer service center located in the Square One Mall on Route 1 South in Saugus.

This is the final year of the three-year steel preservation and painting project to rehabilitate the structure that has been carrying traffic over the Mystic River since 1950.

Motorists may wish to stay informed by visiting the project’s website, http://www.massdot.state.ma.us/highway/TobinBridge.aspx, or by following MassDOT’s Twitter feed for project photos and details @MassDOT.
