ATTLEBORO (Thursday, February 7, 2013) – Today, MassDOT Registrar of Motor Vehicles Rachel Kaprielian announced the availability of driver’s license permit testing at the Attleboro RMV Branch, located at 75 Park Street.
The Attleboro Branch is one of two express branches in the Commonwealth that provide limited license and registration transactions. The availability of the permit testing in Attleboro will help the RMV manage an anticipated influx of test takers during the busy school vacation period.
“The City has been a great partner and has made it possible to bring permit testing to Attleboro,” said Registrar Kaprielian. “Teens and new drivers may now complete this important step in the licensing process closer to home.”
The Registry has repurposed existing automated testing equipment to bring 6 testing stations to Attleboro. The move will save area residents from traveling to Taunton, Milford or Brockton to complete the 20 minute test.
“The Attleboro Branch of the Registry of Motor Vehicles is a great example of State and Municipal Government working in partnership” said Senator Jim Timilty. “I am glad to see my former colleague, and Municipalities Co-Chair, Registrar Kaprielian is continuing to find new ways to utilize this opportunity to serve our mutual constituents and customers here in Attleboro.”
“The addition of permit testing at the Attleboro Registry of Motor Vehicles is an excellent opportunity for the community. Being required to commute from Attleboro to Taunton, Brockton or Milford to access permit testing has proven to be a significant hardship for those in the area,” said Senator Richard Ross. “Expanding access to this popular service will not only benefit potential drivers in the Attleboro community, but will also lighten the load at other registries, allowing for a more efficient experience across the Commonwealth.”
The Registry of Motor Vehicles administered approximately 45,000 permit tests across the Commonwealth in 2012. There are 4.73 million licensed drivers in Massachusetts.
“I am very happy that the Attleboro RMV is now providing this much needed service. This permit testing in Attleboro will make life much easier for Attleboro citizens and families who have someone going through the permit process,” said Representative Paul Heroux.
The Attleboro Branch has earned the distinction of being a top tier branch which means the staff has been consistently able to serve 78% of all customers in less than 30 minutes.
“I am thrilled that the Attleboro location will be able to provide permit testing at our facility,” said Attleboro Mayor Kevin J. Dumas. “This will provide a vital service to our constituents in this area and also lower wait times at other locations across the Commonwealth.”
