Toll Plaza Demolition Project

Period of August 20 to September 2, 2017

District 1

Throughout the period covered by this look-ahead, J.H. Maxymillian Inc., MassDOT’s contractor for the District 1 I-90 Toll Demolition Project, will continue construction operations. Work will be performed around the clock throughout this work period, Monday through Thursday, with no weekend work scheduled. All work is progressing on or ahead of schedule. Please note that all work is contingent upon the weather.

At Plaza 1 in West Stockbridge, the paving of ramps A (connecting Route 41 to I-90 Eastbound), M (Eastbound on ramp at exit 1), and E (westbound off ramp at exit 1) will take place during night work throughout the two week look ahead period. The paving of the main line eastbound will occur during night work during the week beginning August 28. The paving of the main line westbound will occur during night work during the week beginning August 21. Median restoration work and edging will be installed throughout the two week look ahead period. Drainage installation and site lighting at ramp E on the left side, as well as the installation of guardrail will occur Monday, August 21 through Thursday, August 24. Site lighting at ramp A, the paving of the left side of ramp E and the removal of the temporary barriers will take place throughout the week beginning Monday, August 28.

At Plaza 2 in Lee, paving of the plaza ramps and the installation of lighting will occur during the week beginning Monday, August 21. The removal of barriers will occur Wednesday, August 23, Thursday, August 24, Monday, August 28 and Tuesday, August 29. Edging and guardrail will be installed during the week beginning Monday, August 28. Excavation and island construction will occur Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22.

District 2

Throughout the period covered by this look-ahead, Middlesex Corporation, MassDOT’s contractor for the District 2 I-90 Toll Demolition Project, will continue construction operations. Work at all locations within District 2 is trending on or ahead of schedule. Work will be performed project-wide during the standard working hours of 7:00AM to 3:00PM with the exception of Plaza 5 which will require night work (7:00PM to 5:00AM) on Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22. Please note that all work is contingent upon the weather.

No work will take at Plaza 3 during this two week period.

No work will take place at Plaza 4 in West Springfield during this two week period.

At Plaza 5, the final striping will occur Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22 during night work.

At Plaza 6 in Chicopee, work to install lighting conduit will occur Monday, August 21 through Wednesday, August 23. The full depth excavation of the stage 3 area will take place throughout the week of Monday, August 21. The fine grading of that same area will occur Monday, August 28. The paving of the base will take place Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30. Traffic will be reconfigured into its stage four configuration on Thursday, August 31. The full depth excavation of the stage 4 area will take place Friday, September 1.

At Plaza 7 in Ludlow the full depth excavation of the stage 4 area will take place Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22 and again on Tuesday, August 29 through Friday, September 1. The fine grading of that same area will occur Wednesday, August 23. The paving of the base will take place Thursday, August 24 and Friday, August 25. Traffic will be reconfigured into its stage 5 configuration on Monday, August 28. Drainage will be installed Wednesday, August 30 through Friday, September 1. Work to install lighting conduit will occur Friday, September 1.

At Plaza 8 in Palmer, the full depth excavation of the stage 5 area will take place Friday, August 25 through Friday, September 1 with the exception of the weekend. The fine grading will occur Monday, August 21. The paving of the base will take place Tuesday, August 22 and Wednesday, August 23. Traffic will be reconfigured into its stage 5 configuration on Thursday, August 24. Drainage will be installed Friday, August 25, Monday, August 28 and Tuesday, August 29.

District 3

Throughout the period covered by this look-ahead, Skanska/McCourt, MassDOT’s contractor for the District 3 I-90 Toll Demolition Project, will continue construction operations. Work at all locations within District 3 is progressing on or ahead of schedule. Most work will be performed project-wide predominately during the standard working hours of 6:30AM to 4:30PM, Monday to Friday. Certain work at Plazas 9, 10, 10A, 11 and 13 will take place during the night time hours (generally between 8:00PM and 5:00AM), and work at Plazas 9, 11A, 12, and 13 will include Saturday work. Plaza 11A will also include early morning work hours (generally starting at 3:00AM). Please note that all work is contingent upon the weather.

At Plaza 9 in Sturbridge, median curbing and concrete will be installed throughout the week beginning August 21. Electrical underground work, the full depth construction of New Service Road and construction of the shoulder of the I-84 Westbound ramp will take place Monday, August 21 through Saturday, August 26. New electrical service will be installed throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends. Median guardrail will be installed during night work Thursday, August 24, Friday August 25 and Monday, August 28. Milling of I-84 Westbound will happen during night work on Sunday, August 27 through Tuesday, August 29. The service road will be paved Wednesday, August 30. The edging of ramp D, the I-90 eastbound on ramp, will take place Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31. The grading of the area as well as the casting and spreading of loam will occur over the two week look ahead period.

At Plaza 10 in Auburn, guardrail will be installed during night work on Monday, August 28. New electrical service will be installed throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends. Median curbing and concrete will be installed Monday August 21 and Tuesday, August 22. The temporary pavement at ramp E, the route 12 westbound off ramp, will be removed on Monday, August 21. The on-ramp for I-90 eastbound will be widened throughout the week beginning Monday, August 21. Paving will occur overnight starting Sunday, August 27 through Monday, August 28. Ramp milling will take place during night work Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31. The grading of the area as well as the casting and spreading of loam will occur the second week of the two week look ahead period.

At Plaza 10A in Millbury, wire pulling, light pole and new electrical service will be installed throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends. Loam will be spread and landscaping will take place throughout the week beginning Monday, August 21. The overhead sign foundations will be installed Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22. The final paving work in the area will take place during night work Monday, August 21, Tuesday, August 22, Sunday, August 27 and Monday, August 28. The final striping will occur during night work on Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31. The grading of the area as well as the casting and spreading of loam will occur the second week of the two week look ahead period.

At Plaza 11 in Millbury, the final paving will occur during night work on Wednesday, August 23 and Thursday, August 24. The final striping will take place during night work Tuesday, August 29 through Thursday, August 31.

At the Millbury Park and Ride, loam will be spread during the week beginning Monday, August 21. The parking lot will be paved Thursday, August 31. New electrical service will be installed throughout the two weeks with the exception of weekends contingent upon pole installation and removal. Signal loops will be installed and underground electrical work will occur Monday, August 28. Landscaping will take place throughout the week beginning August 28.

At Plaza 11A in Hopkinton, the installation of new electrical service will be done throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends. The installation of curbing at ramp D (I-495 Southbound on-ramp) and ramp F (I-90 Eastbound on ramp) will happen Tuesday, August 22 through Thursday, August 24. The milling of that same area will occur Friday, August 25 and the guardrail for ramps D and F will be installed during the night shift on Monday, August 28. Striping and the removal and resetting of the barrier wall will occur during early morning work on Thursday, August 24 and Friday, August 25. Full depth construction and the installation of drainage will take place throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of Sundays. The overhead sign structure will be installed Wednesday, August 23 through Friday, August 25.

At Plaza 12 in Framingham, throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends, new electrical service will be installed. The installation of a precast barrier will begin Monday, August 21. Wire pulling and light pole installation will take place throughout the week beginning Monday, August 21. The modified rock slope will be installed Wednesday, August 23 through Saturday, August 16. Signage will be installed Friday, August 24. Striping and the removal and resetting of the barrier wall will occur Thursday, August 24 and Friday, August 25. The lane separator system will be removed on Friday, August 25. Median construction will take place Friday, August 25 through Saturday, September 2 with the exception of Sunday, August 27. Median curbing and concrete installation will begin Thursday, August 31 and continue past the two week period.

At Plaza 13 in Framingham, Eversource will be installing new electrical service throughout the period covered by this look-ahead with the exception of weekends. Stage 6 drainage will be installed Monday, August 21 through Wednesday, August 23. Electrical underground work will take place Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22. Paving will take place Tuesday, August 23. The installation of edging will occur Thursday, August 24 and Friday, August 25. Milling under the guardrail will occur Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26. Guardrail will be installed during night work on Monday, August 28. The grading of the area as well as the casting and spreading of loam will occur the second week of the two week look ahead period.

District 6

Throughout the period covered by this look-ahead, DW White Construction, SPS New England and S&R Corporation, MassDOT’s contractors for the District 6 I-90 Toll Demolition Project, will continue construction operations. DW White will continue their work at the Weston Toll Plazas, SPS New England will continue their work at the Allston-Brighton and Ted Williams Tunnel Toll Plazas and S&R Corporation will continue work on demolition at the Sumner Tunnel Toll Plaza. Work at all locations is progressing on or ahead of schedule and set to be completed at the same time in November of 2017.

The majority of work at Weston, Allston-Brighton, Ted Williams Tunnel and the Sumner Tunnel will be performed during standard working hours. For Allston-Brighton this is between 6:00 am and 4:30 pm and for the Ted Williams Tunnel and Sumner Tunnel, between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Certain work at the Weston Toll Plaza will require the use of nighttime shifts (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) and weekend shifts on Sunday, August 20. Certain work at the Allston-Brighton interchange will require the use of weekend shifts, on Sunday, August 20, Saturday August 26 and Sunday, August 27 as well as night shifts between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. throughout the two week look ahead. Please note that all work is contingent upon the weather.

Weston

At Ramp R (I-90 westbound to I-95 North and South) the processing of demolition spoils to sort out debris will occur throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends.

Along the I-90 mainline, gas service will be cut off to IC-15 on Monday, August 21. Building demolition will take place in that same area during the week beginning Monday, August 28. Excavation, grading and installation of loam will take place throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends. The removal and discarding of curbing and pavement at the old H2 ramp as well as the grading and installation of loam on the shoulders will occur throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends. Guardrail will be installed at ramps P, G (I-95 southbound to I-90 eastbound) and K (the off-ramp from I90 westbound that carries traffic to route 30 in Weston) will occur during night work Tuesday, August 22 and Wednesday, August 23. Guardrail millings will be installed Sunday, August 20 during night work. Pavement reflectors for I-90 westbound and eastbound will be installed during night work on Friday, September 1. The rebar installation at the median barrier cap will take place during night work Sunday, August 20 through Thursday, August 24. The form and pour of the median barrier cap will occur throughout the week beginning Monday, August 21. The rumble strip will be installed during night work Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31.

At Plaza 1C-14 and the associated ramps, the grading and installation of loam on the shoulders will occur throughout the two week look ahead period with the exception of weekends. An attenuator at the median of ramps J (I-90 eastbound to I-95/Rt. 30) and L (128 to I-90 westbound) will be installed Thursday, August 24. Ramp L will be paved during night work on Sunday, August 20. Ramp D will be paved during night work on Monday, August 21. The recessed grinding for the final striping of ramps L and D will occur during night work Tuesday, August 22. The epoxy for the final stripping of ramps L and D will be installed during night work Wednesday, August 23. The preparation and the rebar installation at the concrete median will occur during night work Sunday, August 20 through Thursday, August 24. The form and pour of the concrete median will occur Monday, August 21 through Friday, August 25. The rumble strip will be installed during night work Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31.

Allston-Brighton

At Allston-Brighton, SPS New England will continue work at Plaza 18 Eastbound and Westbound, Plaza 19 Eastbound and Westbound, and Plaza 20. Plaza 18 connects I-90 Eastbound traffic to Cambridge Street, and Cambridge Street traffic to I-90 Westbound. Plaza 19 serves the I-90 mainline. Plaza 20 connects I-90 Westbound traffic to Cambridge Street, and Cambridge Street traffic to I-90 Eastbound.

At Plaza 18 Westbound, milling and overlay work will occur during night work Wednesday, August 23 and Thursday, August 24.

At Plaza 18 Eastbound, curbing will be installed Sunday, August 20 and Monday, August 21. Milling work will be done Tuesday, August 22 and Wednesday, August 23. Guardrail will be installed Wednesday, August 30 and light poles will be installed Monday, August 21.

At Plaza 19 Eastbound, guardrail will be installed, the left side temporary barrier will be removed and the demolition of the median barrier will occur all during night work on Sunday, August 20. The installation of an asymmetrical median barrier will take place Monday, August 21 through Wednesday, August 23. The form reinforce pour of the light pole transition will occur during night work Wednesday, August 23 through Friday, August 25. The setting of the precast single-faced barrier will take place Saturday, August 26, Monday, August 28 and Tuesday, August 29.

At Plaza 19 Westbound, excavation work and loading of the soil will occur Tuesday, August 22 through Thursday, August 24. The excavation of the roadway box will take place Wednesday, August 23 and Thursday, August 24. The gravel borrow will be installed and the demolition and rebuilding of the sewer manhole will occur Thursday, August 24 and Friday, August 25. The installation of dense grade base will take place Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27. Drainage and the precast bridge pier protection barrier will be installed Monday, August 21. The form reinforce pour of the barrier transitions and end posts will take place during the first week of the two week look ahead period. The high-speed shoulder will be paved during day and night work on Sunday, August 27 and Monday, August 28. Granite edging will be installed Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30. Milling work and the installation of guardrail will occur Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31.

At Plaza 20, milling and overlay work will occur during night work Wednesday, August 23 and Thursday, August 24.

Ted Williams Tunnel

At Plaza 31, work will include adjusting drainage to their final grade and install castings Monday, August 21 through Wednesday, August 30. Work will also include waterproofing Thursday, August 31 and Friday, September 1.

At Plaza 37, work will be done to waterproof the tunnel slab Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22. Survey work for paving and structures will occur Wednesday, August 23. The installation of pavement will happen on Thursday, August 24, and shifting traffic to its Stage 5 configuration will happen Monday, August 28, both during night work. Work will continue on the concrete island Wednesday, August 30 through Friday, September 1.

Sumner Tunnel Entrance

At the Sumner Tunnel entrance the borings for overhead sign structures will be completed on Monday, August 21. The pavement will be saw cut for excavation on Tuesday, August 22. The catch basins, a drain manhole and piping will be installed Wednesday, August 23 through Tuesday, August 29. The light pole bases and conduit will be installed Wednesday, August 30 through Friday, September 1.
