Current Construction Activities: June 15 to July 13, 2018

Throughout the month beginning June 15, 2018, J. F. White, MassDOT’s contractor for the Tobin Bridge Rehabilitation Project, will continue construction operations. Most work site-wide will be performed during the standard working hours of 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with some work taking place between 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., and a third shift from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Work will also take place on Saturdays.

There will be limited work Tuesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 5, and no work will take place on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

From Monday, June 18, through Saturday, July 14, except for Sundays and July 4, crews will install suspended platform below the lower deck of the bridge (Route 1 Northbound) from Williams Street to Everett Avenue, and blast the right shoulder and center of the lower deck. The safety walk will be demolished on the lower deck from Monday June 25, through Friday July 13, except for weekends and July 3 through July 5. This work will require daily right lane closures from 5:30 am to 2:00 p.m. The protective fence will be removed, and temporary fence will be installed along the high-speed lane of the lower deck during night work (10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) Sunday, June 17 through Thursday, July 12, with the exception of Fridays and Saturdays. Steel inspection will take place on the lower deck from Beacon Street to Williams Street Thursday, June 21.

Line striping on the Everett Street on-ramp will take place on Wednesday, June 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The ramp shoulder will be closed so work can take place.

Crews will stripe the upper deck on Wednesday, June 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The work will require a lane closure from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Daily off-peak lane closures, between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. will supplement the extended shoulder area for safety during impactful operations. Lane closures are necessary to create a safe work zone; drivers are asked to be aware of possible lane closures for their own safety and that of the project team. Please also note that all work is contingent upon the weather. No work will occur on the weekends unless explicitly noted above.
