Comm Ave Replacement

What's New

Please view the new Bicycle Routes and Detours Map and the Walk and Bike Times Map on the Traffic Management page.

On July 7, I-90 (Mass Pike) in Boston was reduced from four lanes to three lanes in each direction between the Allston Interchange and the Beacon Street Overpass. Until August 28, lane reductions will be necessary and MassDOT will strive to make lane shift decisions in the best way possible to lessen the impact on drivers using the highway.

Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Reconstruction Project Update

MassDOT has updated its GoTime mobile app. It now contains work zone travel time information for many construction zones, including the one that will be in place on I-90 in Boston for this project. Travelers should download this tool from the Apple or Android app store to make informed decisions before heading out onto the roadway.

See the Traffic Management page for more information, and to view detour routes and maps.

Public Meetings

MassDOT hosted two pre-construction public meetings on July 11, 2017 and July 13, 2017. The meeting presentation can be viewed on the Meetings and Documents page.

I-90 in Boston Reduced to Three Lanes in Each Direction, July 7 - August 28

I-90 (Mass Pike) was reduced from four lanes to three lanes in each direction in Boston between the Allston Interchange and the Beacon Street Overpass on July 7. The lane reductions were necessary to allow for logistical setups for the replacement of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge over I-90. Crews are using the non-travel lanes areas to build a crane and place major equipment in the median of I-90.

Through August 28, lane reductions will be necessary and MassDOT will strive to make lane shift decisions in the best way possible to lessen the impact on drivers using the highway.
