Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Reconstruction Project Update

The project uses Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques to:

  • Reduce construction duration - Conventional bridge construction would take an estimated 4-5 years, with more continuous impacts on Commonwealth Ave, the Green Line and I-90
  • Limit impacts on users to two intensive construction windows
  • Improve safety for travelers and workers

The replacement will restore the deteriorating bridge while adding improvements including:

  • Upgraded vehicular safety and synchronized signalization
  • Dedicated bike layout with dedicated signalization
  • Extensive pedestrian upgrades
