Outdoor Advertising

The Office of Outdoor Advertising is charged with regulating and controlling, the erection and maintenance of off-premise billboards, signs and other advertising devices in the Commonwealth.

Licenses are issued to firms and individuals wishing to engage in the business of outdoor advertising, and permits are issued on an annual basis for the erection and maintenance of signs, in accordance with 711 CMR 3.00, et seq.

Requirements applicable to off-premise advertising devices in the Commonwealth and application forms are provided below. Questions concerning off-premises signs in the Commonwealth or the functions of the Office of Outdoor Advertising should be addressed to its Director:

Notice of Public Hearing on June 5, 2012 and Proposed Regulation Revisions

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is proposing changes to the 711 Code of Massachusetts Regulations (CMR) that govern its Office of Outdoor Advertising (OOA). MassDOT will conduct a public hearing for these regulation changes on June 5, 2012, in accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. c. 30A.
