MassDOT to Motorists: Plan Ahead for I-90 Restrictions through Boston
BOSTON- July 7, 2014—Starting tomorrow, overnight into Wednesday, July 9 the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s maintenance schedule will require complete lane closures of the Ted Williams Tunnel, Interstate 90 Westbound through Boston.
Beginning in East Boston, I-90 Westbound traffic will be diverted through the Sumner Tunnel to Haymarket, to I-93 Southbound to access I-90 Westbound again. Upon entering I-90 Westbound, traffic will be maintained in the right lane as crews work in the Pru Tunnel Westbound. A second detour will be active for truckers. Trucks will be directed to use Route 1A Northbound, to Route 16 Eastbound, following to Route 1 Southbound to I-93 Southbound via the Tobin Bridge.
The full closure will begin at 11 PM on Tuesday and last until 5am Wednesday morning. Work to be performed July 8 and July 9 includes power washing signs, ceilings and walls.
MassDOT encourages drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to minimize delays. Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while traveling along the detour routes.
