Weekend Restrictions Support MCCA’s Prudential Tunnel Ceiling Removal Project
BOSTON – Tuesday, April 22, 2014 – Today, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced fourth and final weekend of lane restrictions on the Massachusetts Turnpike associated with the removal of the Prudential Tunnel ceiling. Both agencies are proud to announce that due to the faster-than-anticipated progress on the ceiling removal, the fourth and final weekend’s impacts will be significantly less than over the previous three working weekends.
Beginning at 9:00PM on Saturday, April 26th and running through noontime on Sunday, April 27th, the eastbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) will be reduced to a single lane through the Prudential Tunnel. The westbound lanes of the Turnpike will remain open and fully operational. All exit and entrance ramps to the Turnpike within downtown Boston will remain open as normal.
MCCA and MassDOT suggest that motorists planning travel along the Massachusetts Turnpike through Boston during the lane reduction period in the middle of the weekend of April 26-27 consider using public transportation, seeking alternate routes and allowing additional time to travel through the work zone.
