The Federal Aviation Administration has designated and Governor Deval Patrick proclaimed the week of September 15-19 as Girls in Aviation Week.
The proclamation notes the importance of the aerospace industry to economic prosperity, national security and citizen safety. The number of women involved in the aviation industry has increased during the past two decades, but still represents only 16% of the total workforce.
MassDOT’s Aeronautics Division works closely with the FAA on the development of tomorrow’s aviation industry workforce, including outreach to young women through programs such as the Real World Design Challenge, FAA “Walk in My Boots” Program, and the International Aviation Art Contest.
Upcoming aviation education outreach events include the Mansfield Airport Fly-In/Touch a Truck on Saturday, September 20th and the Plymouth Air Show on Saturday, September 27th.
