The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) assures that no person shall, on the basis of race, color, national origin, or income, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance, as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987 (P.O. 100.259), and federal Executive Order 12898 (Federal Actions to Address Environmental Justice in Minority Populations and Low-Income Populations). Further, MassDOT will make every effort to ensure nondiscrimination in all of its programs and activities, whether they are federally funded or not, and that services and benefits are fairly distributed to all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income. In addition, MassDOT will facilitate meaningful participation in the transportation planning process in a nondiscriminatory manner.

Documents for Public Comment

One of the most effective ways to ensure that MassDOT is benefiting you and your community is by getting involved. Some ways to do with are by joining an advocacy group or attending public meetings about projects. Another avenue for involvement is the public comment process, which lets you see the work being done at MassDOT and weigh in. The comments you provide are taken into consideration as revisions to policies, procedures, programs, services, and activities are undertaken. By providing comments, you are helping to ensure that all issues and considerations are taken into account in the work done by MassDOT.

In upholding Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, MassDOT provides meaningful access to persons with limited English proficiency. Part of this effort involves soliciting feedback from members of the public on language needs and on identifying documents that require translation. Participating in this Language Survey will allow you to see the documents that MassDOT is already translating into languages other than English and will give you an opportunity to rank the importance of other documents you would like to see translated and to suggest additional translations you would like to see.
